Brand - Emitwise
Work - As someone who has partnered with a range of technology led businesses I'm no stranger to the gender diversity gap in the tech space and so I was delighted to be ask to prepare a range of collateral in support of Emitwise's partnership with Code First Girls at the 2021 Code Fest event.
Wait, what is Code First Girls?
Code First Girls provides free virtual sessions for women and non-binary people to learn how to code. These come in three formats: online open courses, classes and “CFG degrees”. They are responsible for delivering over £54 million worth of free technology education and teaching three times as many women to code as the entire UK university undergraduate system.
Coding for the planet.
The ask was simple; create an evocative concept that would entice attendees of the event to engage with Emitwise and inevitably join us on the net-zero carbon journey. With the creative being found in an event space it was critical that delivered an inclusive, simple and impactful message that could be digested from a far. I worked closely with the marketing lead to establish a headline message that would not only resonate with the younger female and non-binary audience but also inspire them into action.

The primary deliverables for the event were two 8ft roller banners that would be positioned next to the Emitwise stand so getting the information hierarchy right would be an essential part of the design. One banner was designed to engage whilst the other was intended to inform and so the components and arrangement would differ for each.

In addition to the banners we displayed a choice of leave behind CTA cards designed with the same concept and a similar message. The cards were sustainably sourced which is something we wanted to build into the message on the reverse.

To raise the profile of the event itself and the brands partnership with Code First Girls we released a sequence of social posts to promote the event and shine a light on the community of women who code.

The impact of the event is somewhat immeasurable both in terms of the societal impact and the longer term influence but we were thrilled in the short term to record around a 20% increase in female applicants for open coding roles following the partnership. Having had the chance to engage with so many aspiring coders at the event we've also benefited from a richer understanding of what factors contribute to their decisions around their career path and how best we can support them.
